Time to show off the American Spirit!

Thanksgiving is hours away!! And outdoor decorations are at full force  The entire family is finally coming back home and a big reception is in order. No matter whether you when ALL-OUT or just made some small touches to the house, I'd love to see what you came up too.

Here are two amazing houses! Hope to see what y'all did!! Happy Thanksgiving!!

The time for celebration is almost here!

I wanted to showcase something that would apply to anyone's home no matter what you will be celebrating..

I saw this in the IKEA website and I just knew this was what I was looking for. Hanuka  Christmas or just a fancy family dinner, this setup will definitely make the evening feel like a special occasion.

Outdoor Living

I saw this Yard transformation and I must say I was blown away. A change like this will make all the difference when deciding whether to spend time outside or corner yourself in the living room.

I borrowed this from: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/before-after-1-day-1000-yard-makeover-style-by-emily-henderson-169390 - Thanks for the inspiration!

Hard Work Pays Off

As you all well know my house is under reconstruction.. One of the new tables arrived and clearly my mother delegated the task of assembling it to my father..

I'd like to hear from all of you, is it generally the man in the house that assembles the furniture? Or do my female readers build their own purchases??

Two Rooms in One

I am always looking for new ideas to give my mom for the "guest room" (see how I use ", I still believe that is MY room =(  ). So I came across this idea, as you all know by now my mother is a BIG Ikea fan and one the perks of buying there is that most furniture is adjustable to your needs. SO, I found this, its a bookshelf that has been arranged, obviously, with a gap in the middle, the sofa placed in the center turns into a bed. Now with this smart arrangement you can get got both a library and a guest room, 2 for the price of 1!

What do you think? Would you like this setup?

Introducing pinterest

I created a Pinterest page to share interests and maybe get some inspiration going... There is everything on there, from room ideas to art. Give it a try..

Pinterest name: longgdaughter

It's painting time!

My mother sent me this picture.. Apparently not only my old room is getting a make over but the entire house is getting one!
She had to pick a paint color for the outside and now there are patches of different tones all over the place..
Is that different or does everyone patch paint their house when they are under renovation?

Where is Mom and Dad?

An ad that proves to all sons and daughters out there that sometimes it is the parents who have all the fun. For all the Empty Nesters, I only have one piece of advise... Cross your fingers and  hope we don't go back home after college!!

Click the link below and enjoy! Would love to hear your thoughts about it :)

When Mothers Have a Mothers Taste

I was trying to make this Blog appealing  to my readers eyes and I came across this specific background. I don't know if you had noticed but it is a style of patch work which integrates all different kinds of patterns and colors. I call it a Babies blanket, my mother calls it heaven on fabric..
I had to understand while I was growing up that my mom and I would rarely agree on anything, specially fashion or decoration style, as every season she would try to buy me a Patch Duvet for my room and I repeatedly had to turn her down. I have given her a hard time through the years, so in honor to her I gave my blog a patch work background. Your Welcome Mother!! :)

I'd Love to hear if any of your have had this same kind of issues with your parents or daughters/sons. I find that some of the funniest stories come out of normal and everyday events.

Hope to hear from you!

Life After Me

Hello Everyone!

My name is Cecilia - I'll be referring myself as The Long Gone Daughter - I am a college student in the US and for that to happen I had to move away from home. When I say away from home I don't mean a bus ride away from home, I mean a three course meal on an airplane away. I am the youngest of two daughters my very loving parents brought into this world. It may seem that I am here to talk about myself and my life struggles, but I am not. If you took time to read the name of this blog you may have noticed it is called THEIR changing lives. They, are my parents, I am here to share with all of you specific changes I've seen in my parents that might be actually happening to a lot of other empty nesters.
I always thought the moment I stepped out the door my parents would sit by it, stare at it and wait till I got back, specially as I was the last daughter still living at home. BOY WAS I WRONG! I now call my house and no one picks up - I call their cell phones and when they are answered I generally get the comment - Oh Hi honey!! We are out with some friends we'll call you when we get back home! I am happily surprised  about the fact that they have much more of a social life than I do, Trust me! I don't want depressed parents! But my issue comes when my mother calls me to ask if she can throw away all my precious belongings because my room is under "redecoration". Apparently the room  where I grew up is now too childish for their international friends to stay in! The butterflies in the ceiling are not longer as charming as they once were, neither are all the stuffed animals stacked through it. So CLEARLY they have to go.

I have come to accept that my house is no longer my house, but it is their house. Change is happening and there is nothing I can do about it. So I have decided to create a blog about it. I have agreed to help my mom with the redecoration and coming up with ideas on how to make what was once my house become their dream home. . I'll be sharing with all of you the entire process, our stories and the challenges on the way. Don't worry I wont leave out their outrageous daily comments.

I hope you all enjoy it and stay tuned for what is to come! :)
